I made it to my vacation in Newport Beach late last month in August. Turns out it’s a wonderful time to go because it’s less crowded then in July. I am so grateful to stay at the same place year after year and be able to vacation with my children. Of course, now that they are young adults they arrive and go according to their schedules. Still, I love that we continue to make beautiful memories at the beach house.
From the very moment I arrive I start getting settled. I step outside to the second floor balcony of my bedroom and open the sliding window door. I take a very deep breath of the salty fresh air. It feels warm but the air is cool. I look and see the magnificent ocean far into the horizon. To the right of me is where I admire the beautiful large bright orange and yellow gorgeous sunset. I sit down and I take a sip of my wine and like magic, I’m at peace. Honestly, I can feel the wrinkles smoothing off my face. My thought was, “Wow, this is better than Botox!”
I hope you have a happy place like mine. I know I’ve written to you about this place over and over through the years, but there is something special and different every year to ponder and reflect on. My hope is that my words and experiences I share resonate with you. Perhaps, it may bring some kind of peace or reassurance in your heart, or will motivate, inspire you or at least make for a fun read.
Interestingly, this year for me was about transformation. I have been doing this transformation for a long time. My thought was that it would stop at some point and then things would be normal. Whatever normal is? I thought maybe it would be when my divorce was final, when my kids grew older, when I met someone, or, or, or. How silly of me, it has taken all this time to realize transformation is here to stay forever. The world does not stop moving it keeps changing just like the seasons. It is summer, fall, winter spring and then starts over. Today I read a short saying:
“The only lasting truth is change,” by Octavia Butler.
My life’s transformation has been filled with so many wonderful moments, events and circumstances. Also with some circumstances and events not so wonderful and in fact hurtful. But, it has taught me to be grateful and to search within myself to find the good of the circumstance. I want to share with you that your perspective will give you the knowledge and courage to move forward or NOT. It is your decision how you transform. It is not what happens but what you do with what happens that will make you, you. Although, some circumstances are difficult there is positive value to it. Most importantly, let me remind you that change is inevitable and your circumstance will change. If it’s good be fully present, if it is not good also be present and mindful. Allow the challenge transform you to the best you can be.
Athletic friends, I want you to know that I see you, admire and appreciate the full you. I am always grateful for the things shared with me about your health and fitness goals. Some of you have been with me for years. Time does fly when we are having funJ. We will conquer this journey called life. Let’s continue to keep healthy, moving, stretching and flexing our minds, spirit and muscles.
See you at your next session,
Genny
